Frequently Ask Questions

How much signal gain can I expect to get?

10-15 dB to the overall link budget.

How much training does my team need to use a FOCUS?

Zero. No apps. No settings. No IT department needed. Just point FOCUS toward where you need better signal, plug in power (any standard DC source will do), and you're done. It works instantly. If you can charge your smartphone and aim a flashlight, you can deploy a FOCUS.

What environments can the FOCUS operate in?

Pretty much anywhere. FOCUS is built tough: dusty warehouses, humid coastlines, freezing winters, scorching summers. It's rated to handle temperatures from –40°C to +60°C, indoors or outdoors. If your team can work there, FOCUS can too.

Does the device work with Wi-Fi 7's 6 GHz frequency band, in addition to 2.4 and 5 GHz?

The current product works for the 5GHz frequency, independent of the Wi-Fi version. The device can be adapted for 2.4 GHz as well as 6GHz, but will require a hardware change. Importantly, the technology is protocol agnostic and vendor agnostic. The only deciding factor is the frequency of operation, so it can be adapted to help many different use case and wireless networks.

What is your favorite feature of the FOCUS?

The directivity creates spatial separation between users on the network. In Wi-Fi, frequency division and time division are already used to manage multiple users, and directivity adds a third resource (a spatial dimension) that mitigates interference, extends range, and allows you to control where the energy flows in the network.

What is the power draw of a single FOCUS?

4.7 Watts.

What are the licensing costs?

None. The only ongoing costs are a few dollars of electricity per month.

Will this also help signal from my client devices to my access points (upstream)?

Absolutely

Can a FOCUS replace a wireless access point?

Yes

How can I have more range? Aren’t there limits on antenna power output?

Yes, there are legal limits on how strong a wireless signal can be. FOCUS works within those limits by using a smart surface to redirect and concentrate the existing signal, like a megaphone for radio waves. The result: dramatically more range and reliability, without breaking any rules.

How does the device perform across multiple floors?

We have deployed FOCUS in a three-story building where the signal went from the third floor through the walls and floors of neighboring offices  and we still hit around 60 Mbps. Without FOCUS, the standard access point signal was poor the moment you stepped outside the building. Not the device's peak performance, but a significant real-world improvement.
